In a dramatic turn of events, Teddy Mwambire, the Speaker of the Kilifi County Assembly, has been ousted from office. The decision came after 40 out of the 50 ward representatives in the assembly supported a motion brought forward by the Minority Leader, Thomas Chengo.

While the motion garnered significant support, 10 ward representatives voted against it, raising some controversy over the matter.

Speaking to the press after the decision, Majority Leader Ibrahim Matumbo expressed his full support for the motion’s outcome, emphasizing that the removal of Mwambire would strengthen the operations of the assembly and enhance its legislative work.

Among the charges leveled against Mwambire were accusations of misuse of office, failure to ensure fairness and equality in the assembly’s proceedings, and improper conduct while presiding over parliamentary sessions.

Following the decision, the assembly has officially declared the Speaker’s seat vacant and is now calling for applications from those interested in the position of Speaker.

The removal of Mwambire marks a significant shift in Kilifi’s political landscape, with many now watching closely to see who will step forward to fill the influential role.
