Residents of Kombani in Kwale County are growing increasingly concerned as robberies have surged, with some incidents occurring even in broad daylight. This uptick in criminal activity has prompted local officials, including Governor Fatuma Achani, to urge security forces to increase patrols and dismantle the criminal networks causing unrest in the area.

“The situation requires immediate action from the security forces in Kombani. People are being robbed at all hours, both day and night,” Governor Achani stated. “We need stronger security measures to allow residents to live peacefully.”

She emphasized that Kombani, being one of Kwale’s fastest developing urban centers, is undergoing significant infrastructure improvements, such as the construction of new access roads, to enhance the town’s growth and attract investment.

“We are committed to improving Kombani’s infrastructure, but if the insecurity continues, it will deter potential investors,” she warned.

In the nearby village of Bowa, locals have reported a rise in thefts, with one recent incident involving the theft of metal fittings used in water pipes, disrupting the water supply to homes.

The Matuga Sub-County security team has taken note of the growing concern and has issued strong warnings to youth gangs suspected of being behind the thefts.

Deputy Sub-County Police Commander, Alex Chepsoi, confirmed the reports, stating that the police are actively pursuing leads and conducting targeted operations to apprehend those responsible for the crimes.

“We are aware of the situation and have begun crackdowns. I urge the community to cooperate by reporting any suspects. This will help us act quickly and restore peace,” Chepsoi said. He also cautioned residents against hosting unapproved night gatherings, which criminals have reportedly been using as cover for illegal activities.

“Some of these gatherings have become hotspots for criminal activity. We won’t tolerate this. Anyone found violating the law will be arrested. Celebrations like weddings must follow legal guidelines and time restrictions,” he warned.

Kombani’s location along the Mombasa-Lunga Lunga highway has made it a key area for commercial growth, but local leaders fear that the ongoing crime wave could undermine this progress and put residents’ safety at risk
