Political temperatures in Kilifi County continue to rise ahead of the 2027 General Election, with aspirants and leaders making bold declarations that are already shaping the local political landscape.
Malindi Town Ward MCA aspirant Mahugu Nyaguthii Lucy, popularly known as Angel Lucyanne, has stirred conversation after openly declaring that she would rather lose her MCA seat 2027 than see anyone else take the Malindi MP seat apart from Oscar Wanje.
Speaking on the shifting politics within the Coast region, she remarked:
“Kilifi county politics this round will be tricky. Yaani ishaanza kua mchezo wa paka na panya. Fanyeni yote lakini mjue Malindi MP mtarajiwa ni Oscar Wanje yaani heri msinipe Mimi kura kama MCA wenu lakini MP apatiwe chuma cha maendeleo” said Mahugu Nyaguthii Lucy.
The Malindi Constituency seat is currently held by Hon. Amina Mnyazi of the ODM Party. Oscar Wanje, on the other hand, is the current MCA of Ganda Ward and has gained recognition across Kenya for his development oriented leadership style.
Wanje has also been honoured on national platforms. Notably, he was recognized by the Jamhuri Kenya Awards 2025 as the Most Public Trusted Leader in Service & Health Advocacy in Kenya, a distinction that has further boosted his reputation both within and beyond Kilifi County.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, these statements signal an increasingly competitive and dramatic political season in Malindi one marked by shifting loyalties, assertive endorsements, and rising ambitions.
