ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

In a dramatic shake-up of Kenya’s political landscape, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been ousted as Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after a heated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Mombasa on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

The party’s NEC resolved to remove Sifuna from his leadership post with immediate effect, citing concerns over rising indiscipline and disagreements within senior party ranks. According to ODM officials, the decision was made in accordance with the party’s constitution and applicable laws.

Following his removal, Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo who previously served as Deputy Secretary-General has been appointed to serve as acting Secretary-General until a new officeholder is elected.

Sifuna took to his social media platform to acknowledge overwhelming messages of support from supporters and vowed to address the press regarding the developments. “Following yesterday’s events, I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and encouragement… I will speak to the press this morning to address some of your concerns,” he wrote.

Political circles are buzzing with debate over the future direction of ODM, especially as the party prepares for the 2027 General Election. The ouster has also sparked conversations across the wider opposition coalition, with some leaders downplaying speculation that Sifuna might join other political formations.

As the story continues to unfold, Kenyans are watching closely to see whether this move will deepen internal party divisions or reshape ODM’s strategy ahead of national polls.
