Mombasa, Kenya – Shanzu, which remained quiet for many years, has today transformed into a vibrant hub for major MICE events and leading holiday hotels. This area has become one of the key drivers breathing new life into Mombasa’s tourism economy, as reported by Julius Ceaser, Ag Chairman at the Caucus of Liquor Licensing Boards of Kenya.
However, Ceaser warns that preserving the aesthetic and integrity of this tourism corridor is non-negotia

ble. “It is disheartening to see illegal structures and vibandas mushrooming unchecked. If we are truly committed to positioning Mombasa as a world-class tourism destination, we must set firm standards and uphold them,” he said.
He added that allowing the growth of shanties along such a strategic tourism circuit undermines investor confidence and erodes the gains we’ve worked so hard to build. According to Ceaser, the Kenya Coast Tourism Association has repeatedly raised these concerns with the relevant authorities, but the calls continue to fall on deaf ears.
“Mombasa deserves better. Our investors deserve better. And our tourism sector depends on it,” Ceaser concluded, urging action to protect Shanzu and secure the future of the region’s tourism industry.
