The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has called on Kenyans to maintain peace and calm as the ongoing voter registration exercise continues across the country.
Speaking in Tana River County, Deputy Chairperson Fahima Arafat emphasized the importance of cooperation from political leaders to ensure the process remains free, fair, and free from political interference. She noted that the Commission is committed to providing all eligible Kenyans with an opportunity to register as voters in a peaceful environment.
Arafat urged politicians to refrain from influencing citizens during the exercise, warning that any form of incitement or disruption could undermine the integrity of the process.
Leaders from various regions have also encouraged wananchi to turn out in large numbers and take part in the registration exercise, terming voter participation as a key pillar of democracy. They stressed that every vote counts and that active civic engagement is essential for shaping the country’s future leadership.

However, concerns have emerged in Runyenjes, Embu County, where a low number of new voters has been recorded. Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji attributed the low turnout to the limited number of registration kits available in the area.
According to Mukunji, only three machines per ward are currently in use, a situation he says is insufficient and locks out many potential voters especially young people and those living in rural areas.
As the exercise continues, stakeholders are now calling for increased resources and awareness to ensure no eligible voter is left behind.
