The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate for Magarini, Furaha Chengo Ngumbao, has officially parted ways with the party, citing frustrations with senior officials.

In a letter issued on Monday, Ngumbao—who also sits on the party’s National Executive Committee—said his engagement with the National Elections Board (NEB) and Secretary-General Hezron Obanga had been “profoundly disappointing.”

He accused the leadership of poor communication, neglect of grassroots concerns, and a failure to provide clear guidance, leaving aspirants to “navigate blindly.” Ngumbao further pointed to opaque decision-making and the sidelining of NEC members in key deliberations, which he said eroded his trust in the party.

“I hope that future leadership will prioritize transparency, inclusivity, and accountability,” he remarked, urging DCP to rebuild trust with its members or risk alienating its support base.

Ngumbao had only recently received his nomination certificate on September 18 from SG Obaga, who at the time expressed confidence in his candidacy.

His sudden exit deals a heavy blow to DCP’s ambitions of winning seats in the upcoming November 27 by-elections. The Magarini constituency seat in Kilifi County became vacant after a court nullified the 2022 Parliamentary election results.
