The question of squatting and land grabbing in Malindi Constituency especially in Ganda Ward has for years remained a sensitive and deeply rooted challenge. It is an issue that has denied many families dignity, security, and the fundamental right to own land.

In 2024, under the leadership of Hon. Oscar Wanje, the sitting MCA for Ganda Ward and 2027 MP Aspirant for Malindi, a bold and people driven initiative was undertaken in partnership with residents of Mtakatieni and Kijiwetanga. Together, they successfully facilitated the land survey of Plot 333, a vast parcel measuring 327.8 acres marking a critical step toward land regularization.
Building on that milestone, Hon. Wanje worked closely with the land committee to push forward the legal subdivision of the land, ensuring that the process adhered to the law and ultimately paved the way for the issuance of title deeds to rightful residents. Despite navigating a complex web of legal challenges, the mission remained clear: to restore land ownership to the people.
Recently, a historic breakthrough was achieved the acquisition of the main title deed for Mtakatieni land. Hon. Wanje personally presented this title to the Mtakatieni Land Committee, effectively securing legal ownership for the entire community.

In his own words, Hon. Oscar Wanje stated:
“For too long, our people have lived as strangers on their own land. This is not just about documents it is about dignity, justice, and restoring hope. What we have achieved in Mtakatieni proves that when leadership listens and works hand in hand with the community, even the most complex challenges can be overcome.”

As the process enters its final phase, preparations are underway to officially issue individual title deeds to residents. In addition, memoranda will be submitted to the national government to ensure transparency and efficiency in land distribution.

“This is only the beginning,” Hon. Wanje added. “We are committed to seeing every rightful resident become a legal landowner. Ganda Ward is rising, and Malindi’s future must be built on fairness, inclusivity, and the rule of law.”
This milestone stands not only as a victory for Mtakatieni but as a powerful testament to transformative leadership leadership that delivers tangible results and places the people first.
