The inaugural Dola Super Cup Coast Region Tournament reached an exhilarating finale over the weekend at Mombasa Sports Club. Kilifi clinched the championship in a gripping final against Mombasa A, winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time.
The match showcased intense competition and skill, with both teams fighting hard throughout. Kilifi’s precise performance in the shootout secured their victory and the grand prize of one million shillings.
Kilifi captain Michael Haro expressed his excitement: “We’re thrilled to be the Coast region champions. It was a tough match, but we achieved our goal of returning home as champions.”
The tournament highlighted the best of coastal football, offering a stage for young talent and fostering community spirit. Mombasa A received Sh 500,000 as runners-up, while Mombasa B and Kwale earned Sh 250,000 and Sh 100,000 for third and fourth places, respectively.
Kilifi County also won the Most Disciplined Team award, earning an additional Sh 100,000. Ibrahim Chama, a promising 14-year-old from Tana River, was named Best Upcoming Talent, and Kilifi’s manager, Burhani Mahadhi, was honored as the Best Manager. Said Wagiri of Mombasa A was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper, Salmon Otieno of Mombasa B was the top scorer, and Kilifi’s Bernard Feisal was voted Best Player.
The semi-finals saw Kilifi edge past Kwale B 1-0 and Mombasa A defeat Mombasa B 4-2 in penalties after a 1-1 draw. In the third-place match, Mombasa B won 3-1 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw with Kwale B.
